On 27 March 2020 South Africa went into a nationwide lockdown to slow down the spread of Covid-19. An entire year later, passing the anniversary of said lockdown, families are still trying to keep up with the ever-increasing costs for basic household items. Financial pressure continues to soar even after lockdown has been eased substantially.
According to a survey done by Moneyweb more than 43% of their readers are in debt due to groceries and household items.Although only 3 grocers were surveyed (Checkers, Woolworths and Pick n Pay) they compared the prices of basic goods such as milk, bread, and potatoes.
These were the outcomes:

• Woolworths – The best shopping experience
• Pick n Pay – The best discounts
