Once Trainee accountants are registered with SAICA, their training program can be completed within 3 to 5 years. Auditing is the elective at our firm, and candidates should be studying or working towards a BCom Degree from a SA university that is accredited by SAICA. As a smaller firm, trainees are exposed to more opportunities and constantly develop and improve general skills including an entrepreneurial spirit. Trainees are encouraged to be deadline driven and assist clients with a personal touch. Once the training contract is completed successfully, the outcome of being a trainee accountant will result in qualifying as an AGA (SA) or ultimately CA (SA).Submit your Application
When I reflect on my time I have spent at S, Haynes, I am amazed at how much I have learned and experienced in only three years. The company truly values the well-being of its employees and participants, and everyone is always ready to support and learn from one another. I have learnt so many transferrable skills such as time management, organization, communication, and more. Not only that, but as a person, I have grown. Coming into the program, I was very close-minded, but I have become more open-minded and optimistic. I really appreciate how diverse and inclusive the program was, and it helped me gain new perspectives every day. I can't stress enough how thankful I am to have been a part of S Haynes family in those three years.
S. Haynes CA SA was truly the foundation to my accounting career. From still being in school I approached Mr Haynes as to what my options were to follow a career in accounting. He gladly showed me the different paths in achieving this. I started in 2007, straight after Matric. I Immediately felt welcomed by the team and Mr. Haynes himself. It was a long and tough few years with studies, but Mr. Haynes always found a way to push an individual to achieve. The great opportunity of working in a small firm allowed me to work on all different aspects of accounting and not just a clerk that pushed paper. He molded me into the accountant I am today. This I am truly thankful for. I unfortunately did not proceed to the end result of becoming a CA. However, I received more than enough training to get to that goal. I achieved my Bachelors degree in accounting sciences through the University of South Africa, and I completed my 5-year articles through Mr. Haynes. I currently am a senior accountant at a Group that owns 72 KFC stores across Africa.
My 3 year training contract at S.Haynes and Associates Inc. was highly interesting, fruitful, and an overall wonderful learning experience. At the start of my contract, I worked under and reported directly to a senior article clerk who was extremely helpful: he presented me with new tasks every 2-3 days, followed up with my ongoing activities, and was always available for explanations. With reference to the activities carried out, I was involved in all aspects of the profession: processing bank accounts all the way through to the final draft of annual financial statements, tax calculations and the preparation of various returns, and all phases of the audit process. As a result, the work environment was extremely stimulating. One of my fears (as I’m sure most new article clerks possess) was the environment that existed outside of the many work obligations and responsibilities: would I fit in, will I make friends, and most importantly will I be happy? I can gladly confirm that I have come out of my traineeship with life-long friends, and an abundance of very fond and amusing memories . Each day brought different circumstances and I had the opportunity to make decisions on my own, and learn from both my successes and failures. The traineeship was a worthwhile experience and I feel that it has prepared me well for my professional career.
